Wonder of God's Love

Updated: Dec 28, 2021

This phrase has been on my heart all year. As I entered into the new year, I turned this into a repeated prayer for everyone who has been touched by Wings of Refuge in some way. To see the wonder of God’s love. Psalm 17:7 is a prayer from David where he says, “Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.” Oh, how that is happening at Wings! Our women not only sit and rest in refuge, but the wonders of God’s love are shining on them as well. This has been evident through many examples over the past year that I would like to share with you!

  • A miraculous prayer was answered, and a participant who expected to have her parental rights terminated was given a chance to complete our program before that decision is made.

  • Amazing community partnerships have been created. One example is a representative from DMACC and her exuberance on a tour of the campus that sparked excitement with one of our participants to complete her HISET exam and continue the process of completing her GED.

  • A therapist, doctor, and medication manager initiated a trauma-sensitive team approach in caring for our women that has led to incredible results!

  • A participant received amazing care from a trauma informed neurologist which created a setting where she felt comfortable to visit.

  • Sharing our mission through speaking events has touched several people so that they have created impactful fundraisers and given private donations.

  • Prayer teams have interceded on behalf of our women and our staff. We see God’s peace and provision poured upon us.

  • Completion of the beautiful transitional home and learning center.

  • A therapist has given his time to meet with our staff regularly providing group therapy for much needed and important self-care!

  • Previous participants chose to reach out and connect with our staff.

  • Instead of giving Christmas gifts to her family, a donor chose to decorate a room at the transitional home.

  • A donor sold their ISU tickets and used the funds to purchase new appliances for the transitional home.

  • A participant chose to be baptized.

  • Participants are learning new job skills as part of the ONE MORE social enterprise.

  • A participant gave her life to Christ at a Christian women’s conference where she was surrounded by women who blanketed her with love and prayer.

  • Roasting marshmallows and evening fire pit conversations, women sharing their dreams and goals; seeing glimmers of hope.

  • Being able to hire and maintain amazing staff that continue to bless us with their unique personalities, love for Christ and sweet compassion and care for our women.

Each and every woman that walks through our door is a wonder of God’s love. He was preparing her heart and paving the way for her before we ever met her. We are faithful that he is preparing other hearts right now and we are waiting, ready to shine God’s love on her as soon as she arrives. We would not be able to do this without your generosity. You too are a wonder of God’s love through your prayers, your donations, your compassion and care, your faithfulness. It is an honor to steward your gifts and share this mission with you. Have a Merry Christmas and may God's love shine upon you and your family!
