SUSAN PARKER

Susan brings her passion for helping people and organizations to become their best to the Wings of Refuge board. She was familiar with the ministry already, but Susan and her husband Roger organized a 3D Archery Shoot fundraiser called Target Trafficking in 2021. Through that amazing experience her love for the ministry grew. She is active at her church, Harvest E-Free in Story City, serving on the mission team and worship team. Susan and Roger are blessed with 2 children, 1 granddaughter, a soon to be daughter-in-law, and a yellow lab. Board member since January 2022.
MARTY MARTINEZ
Vice President / Retired
Marty has recently retired from ISU as a counseling psychologist and the Sport Psychologist to the athletes for 33 years. He served as a board member and president of ChidSafe, an organization serving individuals who were sexually abused as children from 1989-96. God utilized these opportunities for service to help prepare and lead Marty’s heart toward Wings of Refuge. From traveling the globe working with Olympic athletes to counseling individuals overcoming abuse, Marty values assisting the healing process of the human mind, body, and spirit. He has been married to his high school sweetheart Sherri for 47 years and enjoy the additional time together with their four children and four grandchildren. Board member since January 2022.
SARAH DAY

From the time Sarah was first introduced to the mission of Wings of Refuge, she knew this was a ministry she wanted to support. Sarah is honored to be able to serve alongside the hard-working staff and participants in the Wings homes, as precious Image Bearers are being restored. After over ten years on staff at Cornerstone Church of Ames, Sarah is enjoying continued involvement in the church, community, and the lives of her five grandchildren. Board member since October 2020.
JIM BAKER
Treasurer | Retired
Jim has a passion for helping children and families in need, which is evident through his time spent as a board member for Wings of Refuge, the YSS Foundation, and the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau. Before retirement, Jim was a McDonald’s franchisee for 32 years and an accountant with the McDonald’s Corporation. He previously served on the Ronald McDonald House board for 23 years. In his spare time, Jim enjoys traveling, riding a bicycle, golfing, reading, walking, and watching college and professional sports. Jim and his wife Karen also enjoy leading a small group in their church. Board member since October 2020.
KAY RICE
Board Member | Retired
Kay became involved with Wings when the ministry relocated to central Iowa. Non-profit work is her speciality and she loves connecting people to needs within her community, especially to help the vulnerable and marginalized. It is truly inspiring for her to see the body of Christ come together to support Christ-centered restoration for survivors of sex trafficking. Kay and her husband Marlin also enjoy gardening, traveling and spending time with children and grandchildren. Board member since 2018.
Kevin Jansma
Board Member | General Manager at Taylored Expressions
Kevin is thrilled to be part of the mission and efforts of Wings of Refuge. He brings a diverse background in ministry, nonprofit work, coaching, and his current role as General Manager at Taylored Expressions. Kevin is passionate about helping Wings of Refuge grow and thrive as it continues its impactful ministry. He was drawn to the organization because of its alignment with his personal belief that the restorative work of Jesus is available to all people.
In addition to his work with Wings of Refuge, Kevin is actively involved in his church, Prairie Ridge Church in Ankeny, where he enjoys facilitating groups for The Ultimate Journey. Outside of work and ministry, Kevin loves spending time with his family, whether it's simply hanging out or traveling together. He and his wife Kelly have three boys, and they enjoy watching them grow and develop their unique personalities and gifts.
MICHELLE NEDERHOFF

Michelle first started volunteering for Wings of Refuge in early 2017 after attending an annual Wings of Refuge fundraiser where she learned of the mission for the first time. It didn’t take long for Michelle to realize she wanted to be more involved and joined the board in October 2017. When Michelle is not sharing the Wings of Refuge mission you can find her and her husband on their bikes exploring new trails and cities.
Mark Den Adel
Board Member | VP Finance/Excell Brands
Mark was introduced to Wings of Refuge through his local church. He played in the Wings golf tournament and was moved by the signs on the course with statistics about sex trafficking and exploitation. Mark is active in his local church by serving on the Board for the last 14 years as treasurer, serving as marriage mentors with his wife for couples preparing for marriage, and volunteering in various mission opportunities. Mark and his wife Wendy enjoy traveling, riding bikes on the Central Iowa trails, watching their three adult children play tennis and coach basketball, attending concerts and college sporting events, and serving in their local church.
