How long have you worked for Wings of Refuge?
I joined the Wings staff in March, so I'm still pretty new, but have felt so welcomed into the family that it feels much longer (in the good way).
What is your position at Wings?
I'm the new Development Director and I sincerely look forward to meeting our supporters and partners in the coming months.
What is your favorite part of the job?
The people - it's always the people isn't it? But really, Wings is filled with humble, passionate people, who make it a joy to serve alongside.
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
One more girl. I think I picture her, alongside me, the 25-year-old me who didn't know who she was in Christ, or the freedom He brings. While our bondage may look different, Christ desires to set all free. It's a privilege to work for a ministry who tells her...because someone once told me.
How were you drawn to the mission?
Jesus! He is always the right answer. But seriously, I started watching the videos, getting educated, and tearing down the myths I'd once believed about sex trafficking. Truthfully, I'm still doing this. And then it's kind of like in the words of William Willberforce, "You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know." I felt an invitation from Christ to engage in the cause. Joining the Wings staff happened to be what that looked like for me, but I think He leads us all in unique ways to further His mission and end exploitation for one more girl. We're all in this fight together.
What are 3 words you’d use to describe Wings of Refuge?
Freedom, Light, and Reconciliation
What would you do (for your career) if you weren’t doing this?
Since coming to faith in my 20's, I've served in some form of ministry. I have a huge passion for discipling college-age and young adult women because that was such a key part of my journey, so something in that realm.
Who inspires you?
Ordinary, quiet, humble saints. I have a few mentors and a husband who I'd put in this camp. The kind of people who become even more awesome when you see them up close.
Do you recommend any binge worthy shows?
Ted Lasso! It's on Apple TV. He's such an endearing character and I found the show to be heartwarming. But, there's only one season out right now, so you can't binge too long.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I'm pretty weird. I think my husband discovered this after we were married, maybe that's a good thing! Some people may see me as "professional" or "put together" but I'll happily bust out in random, spontaneous silliness once you get to know me.
